Study to provide marketers with direction related to technology skill acquisition, and hiring managers with prescriptive technology stacks for digital marketing positions

BOSTON, MA — CabinetM and MarketingOps.com today launched a landmark study designed to identify the core technology skills marketers need for today’s digital marketing environment. The results of the study will provide marketers with direction related to skill acquisition, and hiring managers and recruiters with recommended technology stacks for the various marketing positions they are working to fill.

Marketing professionals working in-house, as well as those working at agencies, are invited to participate.  All data collected in the study will be kept anonymous, and all participants will receive a free copy of the resulting report making it easy to benchmark themselves against their peers, and, discover which technology skills they need to advance their careers.

A Ten-Minute Commitment to Support Career Advancement

Participation is free, simple and requires a 10 to 15 minute time commitment.  Interested marketers will be asked to create and submit their SkillStack™, a visual representation of their technology proficiency, using CabinetM’s drag-and-drop SkillStack configurator, and answer five short questions.

The final analysis will show:

“Marketing has become an increasingly technical function with a great deal of specialization, making it imperative that marketers continue to focus on developing the right technology skills to support their career aspirations,” said Anita Brearton, CEO of CabinetM.  “Our goal with this study is to baseline the technology skills needed for a wide variety of marketing positions to make it easier for marketers to identify the skills they need.”

A Visual Way to Showcase Technology Skills

Beyond the study, marketers can leverage the SkillStacks they create on CabinetM to differentiate themselves in an industry that is rapidly moving from generic marketing titles to an industry of specialists. Using SkillStacks, marketers can enhance their professional profiles by posting their stack to their LinkedIn profile and embedding a custom stack URL in a resume or cover letter.

“Our goal in working with CabinetM is to provide our marketing operations members with peer insights that will help them in career development and advancement,” said Dave Rigotti, founder of MarketingOps.com.  “SkillStacks give marketing professionals a highly visual way to communicate the depth and breadth of their technology expertise, and we would like to see our members to share their SkillStacks with each other on marketingoperations.com.”

Making Life Easier for Hiring Managers and Recruiters

Equally as important for hiring managers, the SkillStack study will identify the foundational technology skills required for a wide range of marketing positions. “Over the last year I’ve spent many hours with marketing managers who are struggling to sift through generic digital marketing resumes to identify candidates with the right technology skill set to meet the needs of an organization,” continued Brearton. “Establishing a series of baseline technical skills for each position will make it easier for hiring managers and recruiters to quickly sift through candidate profiles, and allocate more time assessing each candidate’s business skills, experience and ability to contribute to an organization.”

Kicking off now, this first SkillStack study is expected to wrap up by year-end.
